Strongsville, Ohio- As the 2025/26 school year winds down, it’s time to begin looking at the Summer! SmeeSports is looking for individuals who want to gain hands-on experience in the sports media industry. Interns can apply for several roles or just one role within the company.
SmeeSports LLC was founded in 2023 by Nathan Smee. Since our inception, we have grown to cover the Cleveland and Stark County areas as one of the biggest broadcasting companies in the region. From covering high school sports to collegiate athletics, we have worked with a number of great athletes and organizations. However, Summer is a unique time for us as we cover travel baseball. As of now, we are partnered with the OPL, Diamond League, WRCL (NABF By Extension), and the 965 Midwest Challenge to stream games across Northeast Ohio. With these partnerships, we cover some of the top players in the region.
To give a background on myself, I am a 2024 graduate of Holy Name High School. While at HN, I was the Student Director of Broadcasting for three years. This experience was the catalyst for my career, as it led me to Mount Union. I just finished my sophomore year majoring in Sport Business and Marketing while minoring in Media and Communications. With the addition of the Sport Media department, I plan to add it as a third major. I’ve called several big games during my career, including 6 NJCAA Regional Baseball games, 2 NCAA D3 Regional Baseball games, and numerous OAC championship games. Additionally, I called the NABF Collegiate World Series in 2025. In fact, I received the John Benedict Sports Journalism Award from the NABF for my work at this event.
With all of this said, more information on the internship can be found below. I’ll leave you with one piece of advice. Take the risk. You never know where it will take you.
Please Note: This internship is unpaid
SmeeSports Summer 2026 Internship
ROLES
- On-Air Talent: You would be responsible for calling games as a color commentator alongside our PxP announcer. This role is not limited to just calling games. You could have to operate our scorebug or switch camera angles during the same telecast.
- Producer/Camera Operator: This role is the backbone of each broadcast SmeeSports does. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, switching camera angles (producing), operating broadcast cameras on the field or in the pressbox/command center, and operating the broadcast scoreboard
- Writer: This role is unique, as it is a remote position. You will write articles on select topics. Creative freedom is given, but topics can be given upon request. Given our roots in the Northeast Ohio region, Cleveland and Pittsburgh sports are suggested. You can also attend games that are in the leagues/tournaments we cover and put together a game story.
- Photographer: This role is also not necessarily attached to our broadcast coverage. You will have the freedom to shoot games that are part of the leagues/tournaments we cover. You will get to post photos to a personal page if applicable. However, you MUST collaborate with SmeeSports on social media for these posts and create an album on our website.
- Content Creator: From reels to full-on projects, this role allows room for creative freedom and the flexibility of remote work. You can create highlight packages or basic sporting content to be posted on our social media platforms. However, each project must be approved before starting. This policy is in place to make sure the content supports and aligns with the goals and values of SmeeSports LLC.
- Sponsorship Sales Rep: This is the only paid internship role. You will contact local businesses (from areas provided to you) to try to sell advertisements for the upcoming Fall season and beyond. This role is great for someone looking to get into sales and wants to test the waters. The paid portion of this role is commission. More details will be explained during the interview process.
Requirements
- On-Air Talent + Producer/Camera Operator: You must help with at least 2 broadcasts per week. If you are out of town during any portion of the internship, games can be made up before or after the fact. A double-header would count.
- Writer: You must write two articles per week.
- Photographers: You must take photos at two games. Again, a double-header would work.
- Content Creator: You must create either two reels or one long-form piece per week. Interviews do not count.
- Sponsorship Sales Rep: No requirement. Again, you only get paid commission on what you sell.
Timeline
- This internship runs from Early June to late July/early August. We are still in talks to add another league to our coverage schedule, so the end date depends on when that league wraps up its season.
